Who is Hussain is a global organisation dedicated to letting the world know about an inspirational man who lived fourteen-hundred years ago. A man called Hussain.
We aim to inspire people through the timeless example of Hussain and bring positive change in the world we live in. Our reps and volunteers organise events to give back in their local communities, ranging from blood donation drives to feeding the homeless and much more.
Who are we?
In 2012 we were a group of youth from across different communities in London. Collectively we were inspired by Hussain ibn Ali, and through his example we were inspired to help contribute and develop the world around us. We found that the world we lived in over-emphasized personal need above common humanity. Our shared sense of compassion was heavily eroded. To solve this we wanted to share our inspiration with everyone else.
We wanted Hussain ibn Ali to be a role-model for all, regardless of gender, class, religion, creed or any other superficial factor that divides our common humanity. Hussain cared more for shared human understandings than for titles and names that divide us. It is for that reason we emphasize that we are apolitical, areligious and a-everything else that should divide us from one another!
In the years since we began, Hussain’s stand has struck a chord with thousands around the globe and we have become an international campaign, operating in several countries across the globe. We are growing. We are made up of individuals from many cultures, languages, religions, nationalities and social classes. We have made a stand for positive change inspired by the timeless example of Hussain ibn Ali, locally and globally.
We’ve translated our words into actions, with volunteers all around the world giving back by organising blood donations, distributing food to those in need, volunteering at charities, all in the name of Hussain. There’s still so much to do. Join us here!
Who are our supporters and donors?
Who is Hussain has no formal affiliation with any other organisations, although in order to make the campaign as successful as it has been, we have relied on the voluntary spirit of many across the UK and the world. The Who is Hussain team would like to thank everyone for their support. If you would like to get involved and support this campaign, visit this page.
Who is Hussain has been funded through hundreds of small donations from ordinary people who share our admiration for Hussain. Relying on small donations means that rather than being beholden to a few large donors, we are free to remain true to our ideal: using the example of Hussain to encourage positive change.
